Poetic Photography At Booth Library This Month

The new exhibition of art in the Olga Knoepke Memorial Meeting Room at C.H. Booth Library will feature the photographs and poetry of John Ulatowski. Mr Ulatowski, who lives in Huntington (section of Shelton), will have nearly three dozen images on view from January 5 until January 31.

He has promised that ten percent of all profit from the sale of any of his photographs during the show will be donated to the library.

“There’s an old saying that goes ‘A picture is worth a thousand words,’” says Mr Ulatowski. “But in truth, a photograph can be complimented in very few words if put in the context and respect it deserves as an expressive work of art and meaning.

“Photography, I believe, is spirit,” Mr Ulatowski continued in an article he wrote called Together as One: Combining your special photographic images and your complementary poetry. “[It is] a gift from beyond ourselves, allowing us to see those incredibly beautiful and sacred moments we would never have been privy to behold. And then simply to pass it all on.

“The same is also true of our poetry,” he continued. “…sometimes we can blend the two into one, resulting in magic. Ethereal, aesthetic, simple. When an image from your camera stirs in you to see a poetic counterpoint, knowing in your heart therein lies a marriage made in heaven, you’ve entered into a place that is very special. You’ve transcended craft, and are in another realm altogether.”

The exhibition can be viewed any time the library is open. C.H. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am until 8 pm, Friday from noon until 5 pm, Saturday from 10 am until 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. Call 426-4533 for additional information.
