*Change of plans for anyone who was expecting to hit Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den this Friday night for a QUIET RIOT show. The show has been postponed indefinitely.

A brief release was issued by the casino on Tuesday, reading in part: “The Quiet Riot show that had been set for January 6th in the Wolf Den has now been postponed due to a personal matter with the band. Mohegan Sun and Quiet Riot apologize for the inconvenience and will reschedule a date in the near future.”

On Wednesday Mohegan Sun announced rocker LITA FORD would be performing in the Den on Friday night. The casino has also added a show by EVERLAST, also in the Wolf Den, on February 17.

Quiet Riot’s official website made no mention of the cancellation by Wednesday, but had deleted the Connecticut show from its Tour Dates page. The band seems to still be on track to play in New York City on February 1.

*Meanwhile, tickets for a February 26 Mohegan Sun Arena headliner by BLAKE SHELTON will be going on sale Friday morning, priced at $49.60. Dia Frampton will be opening the show, and tickets will be available online or by phone (call TicketMaster’s toll-free line, 800-745-3000) for the first 24 hours, and then through the casino’s box office beginning Saturday at 10 if they do not sell out by then.

*Also, original NEW EDITION members Bobby, Johnny, Ralph, Ricky, Ronnie and Michael will bring their reunion tour to Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, February 18. Those tickets are $39.50 and they went on sale December 30. They are available through TicketMaster as well as the casino’s box office.

*Finally — and apologies to those who did not see this in the January 6, 2011 print edition of The Bee — Grammy-winning rock giants CREED have added more dates as part of their US tour this spring and will perform at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, April 21. The tour will feature shows were the band performs their album Human Clay in full, as well as greatest hits.

Announcement of this show, and the on-sale of tickets on Friday morning at 10 am, arrived too late for this week’s print edition deadline.

Tickets are $35 and go on sale Friday at 10 am through TicketMaster online or by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets will also be available through the casino’s box office beginning Saturday, January 7.

*At 30 years old, trumpeter JUMAANE SMITH has already done what most musicians spend their lives dreaming about: he has traveled the world, played stages in historic clubs, in massive stadiums and at cultural landmarks, recorded a solo album, appeared on national television, and performed for two sitting US Presidents.

Now the Fairfield County resident — who has also been lead trumpet in Michael Bublé’s band for the past few years and is about to release his first solo album — will have a solo show at The Palace Theatre in Danbury. Smith is scheduled to perform at the Danbury theater on Saturday, January 21.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through the Palace Danbury website. Additional information is also available by calling 203-794-9944.

*Found an interesting listing for an upcoming show at Infinity Music Hall.

The Alternate Routes will be performing at the Norfolk venue on January 20, and BROWN BIRD has the opening set that night. Brown Bird is a duo made up of Dave Lamb (guitar, banjo, percussion and vocals) and Newtown native MorganEve Swain (fiddle, cello, upright bass and vocals) that performs “traditional American music in the best sense possible,” according to their Facebook profile. Headquartered in Providence, R.I., the duo continues to celebrate the release of Salt For Salt, the duo’s “first album,” also from Facebook, “to capture the intense energy of the duo’s live show, surging in waves that often swell into high-spirited, foot-stomping madness.”

We were lucky enough in Newtown to host Brown Bird performances in June (Edmond Town Hall, with sets also by The Low Anthem and Dan Lefkowitz) and July (co-headlining with The Crickstones at McLaughlin Vineyard). Now it may be time to make a bit of a trek, but it will be worth it.

Tickets for the January 20 show at Infinity Music Hall are $20 and $30, and can be purchased by calling 866-666-6306, or through the venue’s website, www.InfinityHall.com.

*Also new on Infinity’s calendar is a January 30 show by AIMEE MANN. The singer-songwriter’s 7:30 pm show that Monday evening will be filmed for CPTV as part of the network’s Infinity Hall Live series. Tickets are $55 and $75, and are on sale; call the phone number above or again, visit the website.

*Additional highlights for Infinity Music Hall include BLACK 47 on March 1. Tickets are $22 and $32, and also on sale now;

2011 Grammy Award winner for Best Traditional Folk Album, CAROLINA CHOCOLATE DROPS will be in town on March 7, tickets are $35 and $35;

JOAN OSBORNE, on Friday, March 30 (tickets are $57 and $77, but do not go on sale until January 5);

LOS LOBOS, on Sunday, April 1 (tickets $485 and $110, on sale December 29); tickets will also be on sale by the end of this week for An Acoustic Evening with MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER and SHAWN COLVIN, April 28 (tickets $95 and $150, with the higher priced tickets granting access to a meet and greet cocktail reception after the performance);

GREG BROWN, one of my absolute favorite folk singers, returns on May 25 (tickets are $35 and $50, on sale January 5);

a pair of shows by TOWER OF POWER on May 31 ($55 and $75), which are on sale now; and DAVE MASON, who is booked for a July 15 show. Tickets for that one are $60 and $80 but will not be available until February 9.

 Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
