South Main Accident

About 12:50 pm on December 30, motorist Robert Hall, 71, of 5 Nettleton Avenue, who was driving a 2003 Lincoln Town Car sedan southward on South Main Street, stopped to allow a southbound noncontact vehicle to make a left turn into the driveway of Fraser-Woods School, police report.

Southbound motorist Courtney Gleason, 20, of 4 Russett Road, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty SUV, then struck the rear end of the Lincoln, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gleason a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Berkshire DUI

Police said they received a complaint about 10:23 pm on December 31 from a person near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Great Quarter Road that there was a motorist driving erratically through the area.

Police said they found the vehicle in question traveling westward on Berkshire Road, near Liberty Road, and stopped its driver to investigate.

Police said they charged motorist Jack Ness, 49, of West Haven with driving under the influence and with failure to have marker plate illumination.

After processing, Ness was released on $1,000 bail for a January 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Boggs Hill DUI

Police report that they conducted a motor vehicle stop on Boggs Hill Road, near Point O’ Rocks Road, about 1:34 am on January 2.

After investigating, police said they charged motorist Brian McGinnis, 28, of Terryville with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, and failure to keep to the right on a curve.

After arrest processing, police released McGinnis on $100 bail for a January 18 court appearance.

Shady Rest DUI

Motorist Ryan Lasher, 18, of 4 Cedarhurst Trail was driving northward on Shady Rest Boulevard about 12:07 am on January 1, when the vehicle entered the southbound lane, went off the road, and then struck a utility pole, according to police.

Lasher then drove northward toward Housatonic Drive, police said. Police said they found the vehicle on Housatonic Drive and learned that Lasher had not been injured by the accident.

Police charged Lasher with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive to the right. Police released Lasher on $250 bail for a January 18 court appearance.

Kerosene Theft

About 8:50 am on December 26, someone pumped more than $31 worth of kerosene into a container at the Friendly Citgo Service Station at 151 South Main Street and then drove away in a white pickup truck without paying for the kerosene. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Clinton Man

Police said they learned that Paul Barnas, Jr, 22, of Clinton was seen urinating on Sugar Street and also exposing himself to people as they passed by at about 4 pm on December 29.

Police located Barnas on Glover Avenue and then charged him with disorderly conduct and with reckless use of the highway by a pedestrian.

Barnas was slated to appear in court to answer the charges.

Intersection Crash

At about 10:25 am on December 18, motorist John Schmalbach, 62, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1983 Ford pickup truck, made a turn from Berkshire Road onto Wasserman Way and the truck collided with a 1988 Acura sedan driven by Christopher Wolcott, 24, of 3 Hickory Lane, which was waiting at a traffic signal at the intersection, police said.

There were no injuries. Schmalbach received a written warning for making an improper turn, police said.

 

SUV Vs Pole

Motorist John Smith, 63, of 71 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2007 Toyota SUV northward near 34 Brushy Hill Road about 4:20 pm December 27, when while he attempted to round a curve in the roadway, the vehicle went into a skid and slid off the right road shoulder, striking a utility pole, police report.

Smith was not injured. Police verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

BMW Vs Honda

Motorist Ahileas Fotinopoulos, 50, of 19 Abbotts Hill Road, who was driving a 1994 Honda sedan, was waiting at a stop sign on Key Rock Road at its intersection with Sugar Street at about 1:22 pm December 16, and then slowly drove forward to check for traffic, police said.

Motorist Philip Vickers, 50, of 6 Wentworth Drive, who was driving a 2008 BMW sedan, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Vickers a written warning for following too closely.

Currituck Road

While on patrol about 7:12 pm December 30, police said they spotted a vehicle being driven with a defective headlamp on Currituck Road, so they stopped its driver to investigate.

Police report they charged motorist Jenifer Garrity, 45, of 8 Stony Brook Road with driving with a suspended license and with driving with a defective headlamp.

Garrity was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 14.

South Main Crash

A multivehicle accident occurred on southbound South Main Street, near Simm Lane, about 8:30 am on December 28.

Southbound trucker Gary Andrews, 50, of 7 Hunting Ridge Road, who was driving a tractor-trailer tanker truck carrying a load of gasoline, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the truck was struck from behind by a southbound 2003 Nissan station wagon driven by Edward Brady, 46, of 16 Whitewood Road, police said.

Following that impact, the Nissan rolled backwards and struck the front end of a 2006 Audi station wagon driven by Michael Rolls, 36, of White Plains, N.Y., police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Brady an infraction for following too closely.

Stone Wall

About 1:30 am on December 26, motorist Christopher Detrick, 20, of 32 Charter Ridge Drive, who was driving a 1996 Volvo station wagon eastward near 5 Orchard Hill Road, drove off the road’s right shoulder and onto a stone wall, police report.

Detrick reported some wrist discomfort, but declined medical attention, police said. Detrick received an infraction for making a restricted turn, according to police.

Sandy Hook Center

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, Glen Road, and Church Hill Road about 10 am December 30.

Motorist Kevin King, 43, of 44 Jeremiah Road, who was driving a 2006 Audi sedan northward on Washington Avenue, stopped for a red traffic signal, police report. Northbound motorist Tammy Brown, 44, of 49 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Audi, police said.

There were no injuries. Brown received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Intersection Accident

About 3:38 pm on December 22, motorist Bruce Rocks, 25, of Shelton, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet sedan northward on Hattertown Road, entered the intersection of Hattertown Road, Key Rock Road, and Poverty Hollow Road without stopping for a stop sign, police said.

The Chevrolet then struck a 2007 Saab sedan driven by Brian Danziger, 27, of 5 Stonewall Ridge Road which was driving through the intersection from Key Rock Road to Poverty Hollow Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Rocks a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

I-84 DUI

State police report that they were positioned at the Exit 10 ramps of eastbound Interstate 84 at about 2 am on January 3 and using laser-based speed detection equipment, when motorist James Sheridan, 43, of 6 Honey Lane, who was driving an unspecified vehicle, nearly collided with their parked police car.

Sheridan then entered the highway at high speed and was seen weaving on the roadway, state police said.

State police said they stopped Sheridan to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. Sheridan was released on $500 bail for an upcoming court appearance, state police said.

Snowbank

Motorist Ashley Ferreira, 22, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Volvo S-40 eastward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 11, about noon on December 30, when the Volvo was cut off by a noncontact vehicle that continued traveling eastward, state police said.

The Volvo went out of control and veered onto the right road shoulder where it struck a snowbank, state police said.

Ferreira was not injured. State police took no enforcement.

Glen Road

Police report that while on patrol at about 1:44 am on January 4, they found Tyan McVay, 27, of 15 Spring Trail inside his vehicle, which was parked near an entrance to a commercial building at 75 Glen Road.

Following an investigation, police charged McVay with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Police said their investigation found that McVay was wanted on two separate court appearance warrants stemming from past drug charges in Danbury, and past motor vehicle charges in New Milford.

Police said they held McVay on $5,500 bail for an appearance on January 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Missing Boat

On January 2, police received a report that a pedal boat was missing from a Waterview Drive property near Lake Zoar. The missing boat may have fallen into Lake Zoar during a storm that occurred on December 26–27, police said.

Police described the boat as a model year 2009 blue and white pedal boat known as a Sun Dolphin 5, which is sold by KL Industries.

Police ask anyone with information on the boat’s whereabouts to contact Officer Richard Monckton at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Moving Violations

Police said that while on patrol about 11 pm January 1, they spotted motorist Michael Svanda, 42, of 130 Boggs Hill Road traveling too fast for conditions on westbound Wasserman Way, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Svanda with driving with a suspended license and with traveling too fast for conditions. Police released him on a written promise to appear in court on January 18.

Snow Violation

Motorist Anna Maria Zamfino-Kroesen, 48, of 8 Saddle Ridge Road was seen driving a vehicle southward on Main Street with a significant accumulation of snow on the vehicle’s roof at about 1 pm December 29, so police stopped her to investigate on Sugar Street, near Elm Drive, according to police.

Police said they charged her with failure to secure a load and also with driving with a suspended license. She was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 11, police said.

Burglaries

Police said they are investigating two burglaries that occurred at a business at Rocky Glen Mill at 75 Glen Road.

The first burglary occurred either late on January 2 or early on January 3. The second burglary occurred either late on late January 3 or early on January 4, according to police.

Police ask anyone with information about the crimes to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Vehicular Violations

Police report that they stopped motorist Richard Pagano, 49, of 113 Huntingtown Road at about 9:30 am on January 4 near 5 Main Street to investigate.

Police said they charged Pagano with driving with a suspended vehicle registration and with failure to have automotive insurance.

Pagano was released on a written promise to appear on January 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Joann Murray, 49, of 11 Trout Brook Circle, who was driving a 2009 Mini-Cooper southward near 98 South Main Street about noon on January 3, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Mini-Cooper was struck from behind by a southbound 2008 Honda sedan driven by Frank DeSantis, 68, of 41 Dodgingtown Road, police report.

There were no injuries. DeSantis received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
