The Genealogy Club of Newtown will host a meeting over Zoom on Wednesday, January 13, at 7 pm. The program will be “Researching Your Civil War Ancestors,” presented by Bryna O’Sullivan of Middletown.

O’Sullivan fell in love with genealogy as an elementary school student, when she discovered that her family was descended from the Mayflower passengers she was studying. In the years since, she has followed ancestors through Revolutionary War, Quebec, the prison camps of the American Civil War, and many other locations.

For the last eight years, as a lineage society application specialist, O’Sullivan has helped her clients through the process of joining groups such as the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the National Society Colonial Dames of America, and many others.

O’Sullivan earned a BA in history and French literature from Tufts University, a MA in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MA in theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary.

She has also completed the Boston University certificate in genealogical research, the National Institute for Genealogical Studies professional learning certificate in genealogical studies, the ProGen Study Group, and the Daughters of the American Revolution Genealogical Education Program.

All are welcome to participate in the Genealogy Club’s Zoom meeting free of charge. Registration is required by January 11. Send an e-mail to jirwin@snet.net with name, address, phone number, and e-mail address. An invitation to join the meeting will serve as registration confirmation.
