Paul M. Alexander

Cherished Husband And Father

Paul M. Alexander, 73, husband of Marilyn L. (Jenkins) Alexander of Newtown died January 5 at his home. He was born in New London, Conn., on July 28, 1933, a son of Prentice L. and Alice (Whalen) Alexander.

Mr Alexander was a graduate of Bryant College, Smithfield, R.I. During the Korean War, he served in the US Army, 3rd Calvary Regiment, Mechanized.

Mr Alexander was the director of cosmetic sales for Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Company until his retirement in 2003. A resident of Newtown since 1968, he was a past president and life member of Newtown Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 and was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church. He was a 48-year member of Oxoboro Masonic Lodge #116 in Montville. He held memberships in the Mayflower Descendants Society and the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr Alexander was a volunteer driver for Newtown Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen in Danbury.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Paul M. Alexander, Jr, and his wife, Connie Ingram, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Commander Stuart J. Alexander, USN, and his wife, Linda, of Jacksonville, Fla., Douglas M. Alexander and his wife, Gabriela, of Beaver Falls, Penn., and Peter L. Alexander and his wife, Zhang Qing, of Shanghai, China; a daughter, Kathryn A. Stater and her husband, Mark, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren. Mr Alexander is also survived by two brothers, Frank Alexander and his wife, Helen, of South Deerfield, Mass., and Prentice L. Alexander, Jr, of Uncasville, Conn.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 am, Saturday, January 13, in the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street. Private Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Waterford, at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown CT 06470.

Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
