Keep the Ban — Bag the Repeal!

To the Editor,
An ordinance banning plastic bags is necessary. Plastic bags pollute water, harm animals, contribute to climate change, and never break down. Never. Several members of the Legislative Council want to repeal this ban in the name of cleaning up the ordinances. I say keep Newtown clean — bag the repeal! These comments are my own.

State ban trumps the town ban. Plastic bags are not coming back. What would go away would be the 10 cent paper bag fee.
The state of Connecticut has banned retailers from providing plastic bags, so repealing Newtown’s ordinance will not change anything about the availability of plastic bags.
