Programs For Parents

POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAMS: Programs are on-going. A “Positive Parenting” series (for parents of pre-school and elementary students) just began on February 1. Parents are welcome to join in at any time. “Welcome To The Teen Zone” (geared for parents of middle and high schoolers) begins on Wednesday, February 23. The fee is $25 per person and $35 per couple. Also, if you would like to host a 5 week group at your home, a staff member would be happy to arrange this with you. This is a great way for neighbors to get to know one another. For further information please call the office.

NEW MOTHERS’ GROUP – Will begin meeting on Friday, February 18th from 12:30 to 1:30. For further information, please call the NYS office.

FATHERS’ NIGHT – Next evening for Dads will be Monday, February 28 beginning at 7:30 pm.

After School Programs For Middle School Students

Parents, please look in the PIE newsletter for the next round of activities. PIE will be in the February 4th Friday Folders. These programs book very quickly and most have space limitations.

Youth Group Meetings:

The High School Youth Advisory Board (HS YAB) will meet on Monday, February 28, at 6:30 pm.

NYCAAP will meet on Tuesday, February 8.

The Middle School Youth Advisory Board (MS YAB) will next meet on Wednesday, February 23, in the MS Teachers’ Lunch Room. The meeting will run from 3:45 to 4:45.

In an effort to allow more students to attend YAB, we will vary our meeting days and times. Some will be “Breakfast Meetings” at 8 am and others will meet on Tuesday or Wednesday at 3:45.

All programs will take place at Newtown Youth Services, 41-A Main Street (next to Town Hall), unless noted. For further information on any of the above programs, please call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335.

The Middle Gate School district was so named because the land held the middle of three tollgates on the Newtown-Bridgeport Turnpike. The area was originally referred to as Bear Hill.
