Taxpayer Help At The Library

Individual taxpayers looking for help in preparing their income tax returns for 1999 may get free assistance offered by the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This will be available at the Cyrenius H. Booth Library every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 to 5:00 pm beginning on February 8 and continuing until April 11. No appointment is necessary.

Taxpayers using Forms 1040EZ, 1040A or 1040 with the appropriate schedules will receive advice or can have their returns completed by an IRS trained volunteer. This service is also provided for the State of Connecticut returns.

It is requested that taxpayers bring this year’s tax package, earnings statements (W2), interest and dividend statements (1099), a copy of last year’s returns and any other relevant information regarding 1999 income and expenses.

Tax forms are available at the Library, local Post Offices or from the IRS by calling 800/829-3676. For further information call 270-0271.
