Lawmakers Consider Seatbelts
On School Buses
HARTFORD (AP) â A measure requiring seat belts on Connecticut school buses tops the list of a legislative committeeâs proposals this spring.
It is among several bills the Transportation Committee plans to consider in this yearâs General Assembly session, which opened February 3 and runs through May 5.
Other proposals include banning open containers of alcohol anywhere in a vehicle, studying the feasibility of electronic highway tolls, and using traffic cameras to enforce red light laws.
The proposal for seat belts in school buses came after a teenager died in a bus crash last month in Hartford. A Quinnipiac University poll a few weeks later found almost three of every four voters supported the idea.
