Gregory “Greg” Rising, 51, passed away on February 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy defined by dedication, adventure, and a spirit of ingenuity. Born on August 15, 1972, Greg’s life was a testament to his varied passions, deep connections, and commitment to his family, career, and the joy of creation.

A proud alumnus of Fairfield Preparatory School and Sacred Heart University, he earned a degree in business. Greg built a successful career at Tower Optical Company becoming its fifth-generation family owner.

Greg’s knack for fixing anything and everything was legendary. A true handyman, he believed in the power of duct tape, WD-40, and a little elbow grease to solve life’s puzzles.

Beyond his professional and handyman achievements, Greg was an avid outdoorsman. Whether it was boating in Long Island Sound or snowboarding through fresh powder, he embraced the natural world. His grilling skills were unmatched, turning simple meals into feasts and gatherings into celebrations.

At the heart of his universe was his family. Alongside his wife, Christine, Greg nurtured a home filled with laughter, learning, and unconditional love. Their children — Riley, Tyler, and Kaelin — grew up under the guidance of a father who taught them the value of hard work, the importance of a good laugh, and the art of fixing things yourself.

Greg’s extensive family included his father, Doug, and his late mother, Bonnie; his sisters, Lori Young (Tim Young) and Megan Rising (Erica Lebow) and their children; and his in-laws, Dale and Kathleen Allen. He was the soul of family gatherings, sharing tales of adventure and offering a listening ear, always interested in engaging in their lives.

A visitation to celebrate Greg’s vibrant life will be held at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, on Friday, March 1, from 4 to 7 pm, inviting all who knew him to share in the stories and memories that made his life extraordinary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 am at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown for all who would like to attend.

Greg Rising’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless ways he made the world a better place, both through the lives he touched and the things he built. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
