The second Sunday in Lent will be observed at the 10:30 am service on March 11. The featured choir anthem will be “Oh, the Deep Love of Jesus.” Sunday school and Bible classes are at 9 am. Following the service there will be a coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall and the Social Ministry Committee will meet in the Youth Room. The calendar for the week includes craft workers on Monday at 7:30 pm and Chime Choir on Tuesday at 7:45 pm. On Wednesday the Lenten Soup Supper will be held at 6:30 pm and the mid-week service at 7:30 pm, followed by Senior Choir at 8 pm. On Thursday the confirmation class meets at 7 pm and Church Council meets at 8 pm and on Friday the daytime Bible group meets at 12:30 pm in the church orfice.

Sunday services at 10 am. The Rev Steven Gordon, senior minister, will lead Sunday’s 10 am All-Church communion and worship service.The Rev Janice Touloukian, associate pastor, will be in the Chapel for the Sunday School that meets from 11:15 am until 11:15 am in the church house at 41-A Main Street. The anthem by the Senior Choir will be “Agnus Dei” with Tim Cardoso providing percussion and Chris Benson on trumpet. Philip Crevier will be at the organ and Mary Andreotta will be directing. A breakfast will be held at 8:30 am in the undercroft for all “trail bosses” of the Pony Express about to open the Stewardship Drive in which members of their congregation will make confidential pledges for the 2001-2002 church budget. After church Lenten programs begin Sunday with Rev Gordon leading a prayer and meditation entitled “Christian Meditation.” A video, “Coming Home,” will be shown as an introduction. The following three Sunday s of Lent Rev Touloukian will be leading the program based on the book Prayer by Richard Foster. On April 8 Rev Gordon will complete the series on meditation and daily practice and will lead a discussion of the theology and everyday life experiences of meditation. The newly formed Men’s Fellowhsip will meet Sunday at 7 pm in the Church House with a guest speaker, the Rev Gordon Vought of the Torrington Congregational Church, who did interim work in Newtown. The Senior Choir meets on Thursdays at 8 pm in the Sanctuary and the Bible studies continue on Monday at 7:30 pm in the Church House and Wednesday mornings in the Sanctuary. Candlelight meditations will be held throughout Lent on Tuesdays at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
