Free Kidney Screening Offered
Free Kidney Screening Offered
WATERBURY â A free screening to identify individuals at risk for kidney disease will be held at the Be Well Center of Waterbury Hospital, located in the Brass Mill Mall, on Wednesday, March 7, from 1 to 4 pm.
Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling Marcia Hilditch at the National Kidney Foundation at 800/441-1280.
The Be Well Center teamed up with the Kidney Foundation to sponsor the screening. Many studies have shown that uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension are associated with an increased risk of developing kidney failure, which affects more than 250,000 Americans. There also is evidence that there may be a genetic risk.
The free screening includes a blood pressure and weight check, blood work screening and urine tests for signs of kidney disease. Those who feel they may be at high risk are strongly encouraged to participate.
