Business owners within the shopping and business plaza at 125 South Main Street are extending an invitation to the public to join them the weekend of March 8-10 for the first Highland Plaza Art Exhibition & Sale.

This event is being hosted and sponsored by Balance Pilates, BD Provisions, Main Street Adventures, Performing Arts Center — Sabrina’s Encore Productions and Lisa Mennilli Dance Academy, Premier Wine & Spirits of Newtown, and Suite Space, all within Highland Plaza.

A collection of paintings and photography has been curated by Flagpole Photographers Camera Club and The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown. Works representing members of each group will be presented in the aforementioned locations.

The event will kick off on Friday, March 8, from 5 to 8 pm, with an opening reception where guests will be able to meet many of the artists with work on view while enjoying wine and appetizers.

On Saturday, March 9, the show will be on view from 10 am until 6 pm.

Special events that day will include DIY Portraits, hosted by Flagpole Photographers, ongoing all day; the celebratory reception for the release of A Tour of Newtown, Connecticut, 1 to 2 pm, at Premier Wine & Spirits; a watercolor demonstration from 1 to 4 pm, hosted by SCAN; and an “Improving Your Photography” session from 2 to 4 pm, when Flagpole Photographers will be available to answer questions and share pointers.

On Sunday, the exhibition will be open from 10 am until 4 pm. SCAN will host a still life painting demonstration from noon to 3 pm and a watercolor painting demonstration from 1 to 4 pm.

Over the course of the weekend, visitors will be invited to enter raffles to win amazing prizes from all the participating businesses in addition to the opportunity of purchasing the art that will be on view.

The Highland Plaza Art Exhibit & Sale is a family-friendly event; all ages are welcome. Main Street Adventures will have special hours over the weekend to entertain children while their parents or caregivers enjoy the show.
