Planning Begins On Sixth Great Pootatuck Duck Race

Excitement was running high at the first Lions Club Duck race meeting of 2006. The goal is to make this, the Sixth Annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race, bigger and better than every with more prizes, games, and community groups participating.

Determined to make that happen are committee members Matt DeAngelis (chairman), Jason Hsu, Peter Bowen, Kevin Corey, Mike Savenelli, Fred Stakel, Gordon Williams, and John Christensen, the current Lions Club president.

The 2006 Duck Race will be held from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 27, at Mike Porco’s spacious grounds on Glen Road. First prize again will be a Cub Cadet Tractor, second prize a weekend in New York including hotel, dinner and theater tickets. Third prize will be an X-Box Game Cube. A painting by Newtown artist Betty Christiansen will be fourth, and there will be at least 36 other prizes — a greatly increased number from last year.

Duck Race day will find magicians, face painters, musicians, singers, and dancers roaming the grounds. A number of children’s games including a Moon Bounce will be available as well as lots of booths and, of course, the grand event; the dumping of hundreds of rubber ducks into the Pootatuck River.

“This should be a fun filled festive day. I suggest all Newtowners put it on their calendar right now!” commented Mr Williams.
