Newtown Historical Society (NHS) will host a special open house for prospective volunteers on March 10, from 1 to 2:30 pm.

Any community members interested in taking on an active role within the society are invited to attend. Guests will learn more about the various positions available, meet current historical society volunteers, and discover how personal interests and abilities can help NHS continue its mission of education and service to the Newtown community.

NHS has a critical need to fill several positions, including docents, greeters, fundraising committee members, and membership recruitment. A full list of volunteer needs, as well as information about each position, can be found by visiting the Newtown Non-Profit Council Volunteer Portal online (newtownnc.galaxydigital.com/agency/), and selecting Newtown Historical Society.

Registration is required ahead of the March 10 Volunteer Recruitment Open House. Readers interested in attending should contact NHS Volunteer Recruiter Barbara Wilson at bkwilsonhistory@yahoo.com. In addition to including name, age (for students), and cellphone number, those planning to attend are also asked to include area(s) of interest, if known.

Students should also include contact information for a parent.

Weather permitting, a fire will be lit and refreshments will be served.
