Hospital Celebrates

National Sleep Awareness Week

NEW MILFORD — The New Milford Hospital Center for Sleep Medicine invites the community to its open house commemorating National Sleep Awareness Week on Tuesday, March 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Sleep Awareness Week, which coincides with the clock change to Daylight Saving Time and the loss of an hour of sleep, is an opportunity to educate and promote good sleep habits.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, millions of Americans are sleep-deprived and suffer from one or more of the many causes that interfere with getting a good night’s sleep. Sleep deprivation contributes to poor health and has implications for serious medical diagnoses such as heart disease, stroke, obesity, and depression.

In addition, drowsiness at work and while driving causes millions of dollars in lost productivity and thousands of accidents each year.

For some, improving sleep hygiene is the answer, and for others a simple sleep study can determine what causes a variety of problems that can prevent a good night’s sleep. The Sleep Center’s staff will be available at the open house to answer questions, and provide screenings and information on steps to take to improve sleep habits.

The Center for Sleep Medicine at New Milford Hospital is led by Ganesh Natarajan, MD, a specialist with board certification in sleep medicine and pulmonary medicine. The center offers day and night-time sleep studies and treatment options for a variety of sleep conditions.

Physician consultation appointments are available in Brookfield and Kent locations. For more information on the open house or the Center for Sleep Medicine, call 860-350-7343.
