Newtown Continuing Education announced it has limited openings available in the following classes. Contact Newtown Continuing Education at 203-426-1787 for further information or to express interest in a program.

Zumba — Burn up to 500 calories in one hour while shaking the body to rhythms of merengue, salsa, hip/hop and more. Zumba is for all fitness levels and no dance experience is required. Zumba is for all fitness levels. The eight class course will be offered on Mondays, starting March 10, from 6 pm to 7 pm for a $94 fee.

Piloxing — Piloxing is a fitness program that blends the Pilates, boxing, and dance into a high-energy interval workout. In a 55-minute class, experience the power, speed, and agility of boxing; and muscle-sculpting and flexibility of Pilates. The eight class course is offered on Mondays, starting March 10, from 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm; $94.

Hatha Yoga I — Traditional postures in a flowing sequence that allow the attendee to cultivate elasticity in muscles, tendons, and connective tissue. Attendees are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel. The ten class course will be offered on Mondays, starting March 17, from 6 pm to 7 pm for a fee of $99.

Hatha Yoga II — A more vigorous session asana flow and sequencing via sun salutations, twists, and more. Attendees are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel. The ten-class course will be offered on Mondays, starting March 17, from 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm; $99.

Creating A Basic Website (The Easy Way) — Instead of learning how to use HTML to code, learn how to put together a basic website using Visual Site Designer by Coffee Cup Software. Attendees will also learn how to create a web calendar, photo galley, and more. Software will be available on a free trial basis for work at home. There will also be a 50 percent discount for those who wish to buy the programs at the end of the class. The six class course will be offered on Tuesdays, starting March 11, from 6:30 pm until 9 pm; $129.

Beautiful Bellies-Belly Dance Fitness — Learn the basics of Middle-Eastern belly dance with basic choreography along with Pop music and traditional Middle-Eastern music. Beautiful hip scarves will be provided. Attendees are asked to wear workout clothes and bring 2 to 3 pound weights. The six class course will be offered on Tuesdays, starting March 11, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm; $59.

Basic Watercolor Techniques — Learn the basic techniques for using watercolor as an expressive and versatile way to paint. Basic drawing techniques for artists will also be covered. The class will go into more advanced techniques for students who already know the basics. Students will be required to purchase supplies. A list will be provided. The six class course will be offered on Tuesdays, starting March 11, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm, ; $124.

 Hand Painted Furniture — With no previous art experience necessary, learn how to take an old piece of furniture and turn it into a masterpiece. Attendees will learn to prep the surface and create designs using many techniques. A supply list will be provided and discussed at the first session, along with a $11 to $16 fee for further supplies. Attendees are asked to bring a notebook. The six-class course will be offered on Wednesdays, starting March 12, from 7 pm to 9 pm; $99.

Introduction To The Art Of Drawing — The course will offer beginners the fundamentals in drawing. Working with pencil and/or charcoal, students will learn shading, the importance of negative space, how to measure with their eye and the basics of perspective and how to pick a good composition. We will draw from basic forms and still life compositions. Students will need to bring: newsprint or cheap drawing paper, drawing pencils, white erasure, vine charcoal or square Char-Kole, gray kneadable artist erasure. The instructor will supply: flood lights, electrical cords, still life items, and small pieces of chamois for $3 each. The course is limited to 12 students. The five-class course will be offered on Tuesdays, starting March 11, from 7 pm to 9 pm; $99.

Oriental Brushwork Painting — This is an introductory course in the basic techniques of Chinese- and Korean-style brushwork painting. Learn to create the four classic plants: bamboo, orchid, cherry blossom, and chrysanthemum. Experience how the techniques help to focus the mind, calm the spirit, and increase self-confidence. Supplies available from instructor. A materials fee of $25 is payable to the instructor at the first class. No discounts apply. The five-class course will be offered on Wednesdays, starting March 12, from 7 pm to 9 pm; $99.

Reading Tea Leaves — Tasseography is the name for reading tea leaves. Not only will attendees read the tea leaves, but they will also learn the history of tea back to the 17th Century where the reading of tea leaves was introduced. The one class course will be offered on Wednesday, March 12, from 6 pm to 9 pm; $39.
