Augustine J. Palmieri, Sr

Augustine J. Palmieri, Sr, 89, of Stratford died March 3 at his home. Better known as “Gus,” he was born in New Haven, May 24, 1925, a son of the late Rose and Augustine Palmieri. He was the beloved husband of Ann Costa Palmieri for 63 years. Mr Palmieri lived in Trumbull for 35 years, where he worked and raised his family before moving to Stratford.

In addition to his beloved wife, his son, Augustine Palmieri, Jr, of Newtown; his daughter, Lynn Conine, and her husband Richard, of Milford; his grandchildren Frank Souza of Milford, and Aidan and A.J. Palmieri of Fairfield, who reside with Deborah Palmieri; a sister, MaryAnn Palmieri of San Jose, Calif.; and many loved nieces and nephews survive Mr Palmieri. His sister, Marie Auger, predeceased him.

A graduate of Yale University Class of 1949, he was a World War II veteran, and was a fighter pilot for the US Navy.

He was employed by Lyons and Mather Architectural firm before opening his own architectural firm in Trumbull, A.J. Palmieri Architect and Associates. He worked at his firm for 25 years before retiring. Some of his accomplishments included but were not limited to the work on the Shelton Police Station, Shelton High School, Trumbull Library, UConn School of Fine Arts, Hallen Elementary School, Trumbull Schools Roofing Project and the New London Police Station. He was licensed to practice architecture in Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, and Florida. He was certified by the National Council of the Registration Board and also a member of the American Institute of Architects.

He participated on the board of Lafayette Bank and was a member of the Trumbull Exchange Club. He was an active member of the Mill River Country Club and an avid golfer and tennis player. He was also a member of the Yale swim team.

He was a lifelong and devout parishioner of St Theresa Church, and his love for faith, family, and life meant more than anything to him.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled directly in St Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull, Friday, March 6, at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. There will be no calling hours.
