DANBURY — Musicals at Richter, which presents outdoor summer theatre at Richter Park, will hold auditions for its 2000 summer season March 18 through March 21. The auditions will be at The Melrose School, on Federal Hill Road in Brewster, N.Y.

Scheduled shows for the 2000 season include Godspell as the season opener, to run June 15 through July 1, and being directed by Don Rickenback; Evita, July 6-22, directed by George Vollano; and 42nd Street, July 27 to August 12, to be directed by Richard Sanders.

Audition times for adults (high school and up) are Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19, from 2 to 5 pm; and Monday and Tuesday, March 20-21, from 7 to 10 pm. Those auditioning should prepare two Broadway show tunes (uptempo and ballad), bring music in their key, and be ready to learn a short dance combination. An accompanist will be provided.

Also, bring a picture and resume if you have them. The positions are unpaid and all roles are open.

For those interested in dancing roles in 42nd Street, a separate tap-only audition will be held Saturday, March 18, from 7-10 pm at CityCenter Dance Factory (formerly Jacki’s Dance Factory), 345 Main Street in Danbury. All interested tappers must attend this dance audition plus one of the regular singing auditions in order to be considered for one of the dancing roles of 42nd Street.

During the auditions, performers will also be sought for Fairy Tale Theatre, a small repertory group that presents children’s shows on selected Saturday mornings during the summer.

Children’s roles are available in Evita and in the Fairy Tale Theatre troupe. Children’s auditions will be held Saturday, March 18, from 9 am to 1 pm, at Melrose School.

Now in its 16th season, Musicals at Richter is Fairfield County’s longest-running outdoor community theatre. Performances are given on weekends at Richter Arts Center (next to Richter Park Golf Course), at 100 Aunt Hack Road, in Danbury. Nestled in the hills of Western Connecticut, the Arts Center stage has served as the scenic backdrop for over 35 musicals produced by Musicals at Richter, as well as a professional springboard for hundreds of up-and-coming performers.

For directions or further information, check the Richter Web site (www.danbury.org/org/richtmus) or contact artistic director George Vollano at 426-3025.
