Robert Dallas Kalbaugh

Robert Dallas Kalbaugh, 80, of Westmoreland, N.H., died March 4 at the Applewood Care & Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, following a period of declining health. He was born in Hollywood, Calif., June 3, 1934, and was the son of the late Dorothy (Robinson) and Dallas F. Kalbaugh. 

His wife of 54 years, Marylyn Kalbaugh; two sons, Robert J. Kalbaugh, and his wife Susan, of Newtown and James M. Kalbaugh, and his wife, Katie Collins-Kalbaugh, of Chicopee, Mass.; a daughter, Karen Duetsch of Westmoreland; and six grandchildren survive Mr Kalbaugh. A granddaughter, Christine Smith, predeceased him.

He grew up in Burney, Calif., and graduated from Burney High School in 1952. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he rose to the rank of lieutenant junior grade in the Naval Aviation Division, which led to a 35-plus-year career as a commercial airline pilot for American Airlines. He flew routes both domestically and international.

He married Marylyn Meathrel in a ceremony in Corpus Christy, Texas, January 20, 1961. After moves to New York, Connecticut, and Florida, they finally settled in Westmoreland in 2007.

The family started a gentleman’s farm. He enjoyed playing golf, and spending down time relaxing with his family.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at a later date.
