String Music Festival Will Feature The Efforts Of Local Musicians
BETHEL â On Saturday, March 20, at 3 pm, Fairfield County String Teachers Association will present its 30th annual String Orchestra Music Festival.
Featured on the program will be three string orchestras with a total of over 200 area middle and junior high school students participating. Eighteen towns in the western region of Connecticut will be represented. The event is an enrichment experience for qualified instrumentalists recommended by their school music teachers and selected by festival committees.
Representing Newtown this year are Timothy Lacouture, Emily E. Loose, Sean OâConnell, and Dave Wilkins. Sandy Hook musicians are Lindsey Jones and Irene Koh.
A public concert will be presented at Bethel Middle School. Tickets are $5 for adults. Children under 14 years of age will be admitted free.
Featured soloist will be Gary Capoziello, a graduate of Fairfield High School and former participant in Fairfield County String Festival. Gary graduated from SUNY/Purchase as a violin major and is currently at New England Conservatory pursuing a masterâs degree.
It is the belief of the Fairfield County String Teachers Association that this annual concert experience offers a stimulating musical opportunity for the participants and provides them with the motivation to advance in their musical studies. In addition, the festival provides students from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to interact in a positive educational and social setting.
