Time For Separate Referendums

To the Editor:

It is now legal to have separate referendums for town budgets and school budgets. The State Supreme Court voted 5 to 0 in favor of separate referendums, if wanted. The Board of Education will now be less demanding since the taxpayer is now given his rightful power to agree or disagree to the demands of the BOE. Newtown must effect this change immediately. With two referendums we have choice. You will be free to vote your minds. Accountability is a must.

The proposed budget is not in line with inflation; it is not in line with the average citizen’s earnings or job availabilities, it is in line with most BOE Connecticut budgets. Therefore this budget needs a scrubbing. When was the last time the mil rate was not changed or was lowered?
