Education Connection Receives

Before And After School Grant

Education Connection’s School Age Programs has been awarded a two-year Before and After School Enrichment Services (BASES) grant. Funded by the Connecticut State Department of Education, BASES will enrich the after school programs in Newtown, Barkhamsted, Brookfield, Region 14, Sharon, Torrington, and New Hartford.

Funding will be used to implement a comprehensive Parent Partnership Program, which is intended to help working families, BASES’s family-centered activities are designed to empower parents to positively influence their child(ren)’s education, according to Education Connection. Activities include: needs-based scholarships; a parent information committee; educational opportunities in homework coaching, discipline guidance, and parent training; and fun family events such as Family Game Night, Father/Son Basketball Night, and Science Night.

BASES is a collaboration among many community partners, including all participating school districts, the Youth Development and Training Resource Center, Newtown Youth & Family Services, The Center for 21st Century Skills @ Education Connection, Foothills Adult and Continuing Education, Torrington Family Resource Center, Torrington Youth Service Bureau, and the Northwest Connecticut Regional After School Network.
