The fourth annual Sandy Hook 5K road race will take place on Saturday, April 2. Following three waves of kids runs beginning at 9 am, the 5K will begin at 9:30 am on the campus of Fairfield Hills.

Police announce that three roads in the area will be closed for about an hour, beginning at 9:30 am: Keating Farms Avenue, Mile Hill Road South, and Nunnawauk Road.

Shuttles to and from the race will operate from designated parking locations, including Newtown High School, beginning at 7:30 am. Newtown Police will have six officers on duty to direct traffic.

There are more than 2,000 participants signed up for the event, and participation registration is closed. Virtual runners are still welcomed; click here for details and registration. Over 200 people have already registered to do a virtual run.

The Newtown Memorial Fund will again serve as the fiduciary to collect and process all donations. Proceeds from the Sandy Hook 5K will be donated to the Collaborative Recovery Fund administered by The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation, which pays the out-of-pocket mental health expenses for those eligible who have been most impacted by 12/14.

Additionally, a percentage of the proceeds will go directly to the chosen nonprofit organizations of the 26 families who lost loved ones in the tragedy.
