Main Street Closes—

SUV Hits Three Parked Vehicles

By Andrew Gorosko

A four-vehicle accident, involving three sport-utility vehicles and a sedan, occurred on Main Street near Edmond Town Hall on the night of Friday, March 26, resulting in the closure of a half-mile section of the busy street for about an hour.

The accident happened while Main Street was lined with the parked, vacant vehicles of people who were watching a movie in the town hall theater. The crash involved three parked vehicles.

While clearing the wreckage and taking measurements, police halted through-traffic flow on the heavily traveled section of Main Street lying between its intersections with Church Hill Road and Hanover Road, resulting in a series of detours that snarled traffic in the town center.

Police described the accident.

At about 7:34 pm, motorist James Pixley, 17, of 48 Bear Hills Road, Botsford, who was driving a 1988 Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle northward near town hall, struck three vehicles that were parked alongside the northbound curb.

The Chevrolet struck a 2001 Honda CRV, a 1998 Audi A-4, and a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero. The Honda and the Audi were extensively damaged. The Mitsubishi received minor damage. The accident occurred near the crosswalk in front of town hall.

The impact of the collision pushed the Honda off the street and onto a lawn. The Chevrolet came to rest on its left side in the northbound lane.

Police said Pixley told them that he did not remember what had happened.

Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident. They spread absorbent materials on the pavement to contain spilled automotive fluids. Three fire trucks were dispatched to the accident.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Pixley to Danbury Hospital on a report of back and neck pain, police said.

The Honda is owned by Anthony Pirrelli of Brookfield. The Audi’s owner is Giovanni Greto of 57 Lakeview Terrace, Cedarhurst. The Mitsubishi is owned by Peter Poodiack, Jr, of Bethel.

Police said March 30 the accident remains under investigation.
