Celebrate Youth Month

As part of Celebrate Youth Month this May, Newtown Youth Services is planning the 17th annual Youth Talent Show in the Newtown Middle School auditorium on Friday, May 7, at 7 pm. Kevin Koschel will be returning with his impressive sound and effects talent.

Potential participants may schedule an audition between 3 and 5 pm on March 30 and April 1 or between 4 and 6 pm on Wednesday, April 7.

Slots are expected to fill up quickly. There is a $5 registration fee.

Talent show attendees will enjoy a unique variety of performances from singers, dancers, musicians, and other entertainers of all ages.

Additional Celebrate Youth Month events include Independent Living Day with senior citizens on May 1, the Newtown Organization to Stop Underage Drinking (NO SUDS) community forum on May 12 at 7 pm, the Hay City Blues Concert on May 22 at 8 pm, the Newtown Youth Servicesâ Annual Meeting and Gail Smith Awards ceremony on May 24 at 7 pm, the Outstanding Youth Awards on May 27 at 4 pm, and the Newtown Youth Servicesâ Youth Advisory Board scholarship presentation on awards night at Newtown High School.

If they get that passed they are in hog heaven,they have plenty of fat in the original proposal.The voters will now be shamed into passing the revised budget. I say we vote it down again and see how creative they can get with the numbers.We all know plenty of fat is laced in the proposals.

I, too, love that flagpole. I approach it in the southbound lane, as Mr Gardner described, and it’s an inspiring way to start my day. In addition to all it stands for, it tells me something, whether it’s furling in the wind, or hanging quietly when weather is still, sometimes boldly majestic, sometimes sad or unsure. A gem like no other. I know it generates angst with traffic; approached with the appropriate level of caution, it should not be such a problem. Can’t really blame the flagpole, it doesn’t move. I hope it’s there long after I’m gone, and inspires others as well. Thank you Mr Gardner and all the other current, previous, and even future Keepers of the Flagpole.
