Heartfelt Thanks

To the Editor:

Our family would like to thank the Newtown Police Department for their amazing tribute to our father, James Comerford. He was an auxiliary and special officer with the police department since 1981. During that time he made many friends while serving the town he loved. We want the residents of Newtown to know about the incredible people who protect this great town.

The men and women of the Newtown Police Department went above and beyond the call of duty to honor our father, his friendship, and his service to the community. Thank you for visiting our father in the hospital, thank you for your representation at his wake, thank you for serving as pall bearers and for speaking at his funeral. Thank you for planning and organizing the most amazing farewell many of us have ever seen. (If you were driving through town the morning of March 15, you know what we are talking about.) Your support meant so much to all of us. We would also like to thank the members of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Company for displaying and illuminating the American Flag in honor of our father. He would have been very proud! We are very proud and truly grateful.
