Program For Parents

EASTON — Friends of Easton Library will sponsor a program by Robert Francis, the executive director of Regional Youth Adult Substance Abuse Program, and Phil Guzman, PhD, the executive director of Children Guidance Center of Great Bridgeport, on Thursday, April 13. The free program will begin at 7 pm. It will be at the library, which is on the corner of Center and Moorehouse Roads.

Mr Francis will talk about teenagers today. He will discuss the results of a 1999 survey of young people in the greater Bridgeport area, which focuses on their risk behavior — substance abuse, crime and violence, teen sexuality, school behavior, etc.

He will also discuss teens’ developmental assets, which include those things young people do that are positive such as community service, helping others, views of the future, and positive relationships with schools, peers and family.

Dr Guzman will talk about how parents can identify problems their children may be having. He will discuss the types of problems young people are experiencing today and what is being done to treat these problems. He will also discuss a number of creative programs that specifically address the needs of teenagers.
