To the Editor:

I was struck last week by a comment in The Bee that there seems to be activities for kids and seniors but none for the adults left in between.

Let me present, then, the website of the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, which includes a calendar of arts events in the area (newtownartscommission.org/events/list/).

Currently, we list 22 arts events in April, all within 30 minutes of the flagpole and many free or for a small donation. And nine more events in May, with many more to come.

And we’ll be listing summer outdoor concerts from all area towns.

Our Facebook page notes auditions for community theaters locally and from as far away as Kansas City, as well as jobs in the arts, no matter where they are.

And, finally, we look forward to the 2024 Newtown Arts Festival (newtownartsfestival.com/) set for September 20-22 on the grounds of Fairfield Hills. With a Friday night concert, Saturday and Sunday will feature dance, music, a Make & Take it Tent, food trucks and a Wine & Beer Garden. And 79+ artisans. Admission is deliberately set low, $5 for adults & free for 12 and below, so that the arts can be available to everyone.

Proceeds of the Festival support our scholarships for Newtown residents graduating from high school and grants for Newtown artists.

We are privileged to be part of the vibrant arts community in Newtown and hope to see you all at the Festival. (I’ll be the short redhead in the entry tent. Say hello.)

Editor’s Note: We too would like to remind readers that we carry Community Calendar offerings, in print and online. Our print edition calendar offers listings of local antiques shows and flea markets (when scheduled locally), arts events, events for children and families, concerts, films, Town board and commission meetings, theater, events for young adults, and even a miscellaneous category for events that don’t fit into any of the aforementioned. The print edition covers all things Newtown; the online calendar offers out-of-town listings upon request.
