Your Vote Counts

To the Editor:

I am worried that there are a number of eligible voters who are thinking of using their precious vote to protest. That is — don’t vote! This is absolutely the wrong way to protest. It is our privilege, and our duty, to vote.

In the USA your Presidential voting opportunities come every four years as specified in the Constitution. In the event you don’t vote in the 2024 Presidential Election, and Trump becomes President, it will more than likely be your last vote! Trump has said that on day one of his Presidency, if elected, he will act as a dictator. He will change the Constitution to make him President for life. He will then select the next President for his life, and so forth. The Rule of Law will be compromised to allow the President free reign over the Country. Which is all a re-play of Adolph Hitler’s play book.

Currently, all the USA citizens over the age of 18 have the privilege to vote, regardless of gender or race. When the USA was formed, voting was only granted to property-owning males, which lasted approximately 100 years when all of the States removed the land-owner requirement.

The next major shift in voter rights came in 1919 after long and arduous protesting, when women finally got the right to vote via the 19th Amendment to The Constitution. After the Civil War, the freed slaves obtained the right to vote. Many States had voting requirements designed to limit, or discourage, the right to vote. In 1968 President Johnson enacted voting laws to eliminate these “Jim Crow” laws and give the African Americans easier access to voting. You see why the 21st Century right-to-vote is so precious and should not be wasted by not voting.

In the 2024 Presidential Election, there are two major candidates, Biden and Trump. If you think that neither one is good enough to get your vote, you should definitely reconsider. Protesting can take many forms, but not voting is not one of them. If you decide to not vote and you have a preference between the two candidates, you are giving your vote to the other candidate. Because your preference candidate has lost your vote giving the other candidate one less vote to overcome — that’s how it works.

In conclusion, President Biden has demonstrated he is a man of honor and committed to sustaining the principles embedded in The Constitution. If your vote for Biden ends in his re-election, you can be sure of another vote in 2028!

Respectfully,

Robert Morrison

What a fervent and malignant imagination. Our votes only count for CT electors. And we know how that is going to go.
