Eugene Garriepy, 82, of Sandy Hook, beloved husband of 53 years to Margaret Christine (Panciera) Garriepy, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital, April 3. He was born November 19, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y.  He was raised in New York, spending many years there before moving to Sandy Hook.

A proud veteran, he honorably served in the US Air Force as an aircraft engine specialist for the 31st Air Transport Squadron, and later as a crew chief aboard a C-124 Globemaster.

He worked for Olin Chemicals as a marketing specialist for more than 25 years.

He was an avid bowler, woodworker, and photographer, and served for a time on the Newtown Legislative Council. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is the beloved father and father-in-law of Deborah Granquist and her husband Michael and Laura Porcelli and her husband Douglas. He leaves his grandchildren Gregory and Jason; and many friends, colleagues, and relatives. All who knew him will sorely miss his kind heart, quick wit, intelligence, and great sense of humor.

Friends may call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Tuesday, April 7, from 5 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 8, at noon, in St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery.
