Danbury Hospital

Keith A. Hovan, RN, has been appointed senior vice president of operations for the medical, surgical, and rehabilitation service lines. He came to Danbury Health Systems from Montefiore Medical Center of New York, where he was vice president of clinical services for Henry and Lucy Moses and Einstein-Weiler hospitals. He holds a master of science degree in nursing from Sacred heart University.

Susan M. Kania has been appointed director of the Danbury Hospital Development Fund, Inc. She has been a member of the development fund staff since 1984 and a hospital employee since 1979. She holds a certificate in fundraising and development from Marymount College and a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University.

Joyce Rice has been appointed manager of Health Information Services (HIS), a department that manages the paper medical records and computer data of all patients. She comes to Danbury Hospial from St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where she was manager of medical records.

Brian Abbott, MD, has returned to the hospital’s Center for Child & Adolescent Treatment Services as a part-time outpatient child and adolescent psychiatrist. Board certified, he comes to CCATS from the Astor Child Guidance Center in New York City where he is a child psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist.

New Milford Hospital

Robert S. Bernstein, MD, has joined the medical staff as an endocrinologist. A magna cum laude graduate of the Harvard Medical School, he is board-certified in internal medicine, and in endocrinology and metabolism subspecialty. He spent two years at the National Institutes of Health, and completed a clinical fellowship in metabolism at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Mo. He has held several teaching assignments during his career and published many articles in professional journals.

Wendy H. Drost, MD, and Matthew G. Abel, MD, have joined the pediatric practice at the Candlewood Valley Pediatrics in New Milford and the medical staff at New Milford Hospital. Dr Abel also is on the Danbury Hospital medical staff.

Roman Adler, MD, has joined the pediatric practice of Josef Burton, MD, in New Milford, and the medical staffs of New Milford and Danbury hospitals. He is board certified in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

UConn Health Center

Bruce T. Liang, MD, a research-focused physician, is the new chief of cardiology at the center. He came from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he was as an associate professor of both medicine and pharmacology, and was actively involved with research, receiving 16 years of consecutive funding from the National Institutes of Health. At UConn, he was named the Raymond Neag Distinguished Professor of Vascular Biology and Cardiovascular Medicine.

Cathleen Campbell, MD, and Mary E. Fiske, MD, have joined the UConn faculty as specialists in obstetrics and gynecology. They offer expertise in a wide range of women’s health issues including pregnancy planning and care, menopause management, and minimally invasive surgical procedures for gynecological problems.
