Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ tennis teams defeated Bunnell of Stratford on April 22.

The girls won 7-0 on the road. In singles play, Sophia Dutsar won 6-3, 6-0; Eren Weiss won 1-6, 6-4, 6-2; Jamie Rowan came out on top 6-1, 6-1; and Maria Souza won 7-6, 6-2. In doubles action Margaret Donovan and Ella Morits were victorious 6-0, 6-0; Ella Musen and Katie Jarvis won 6-1, 6-1; and Molly Tinkler and Sydney Bruno won 6-2, 6-1.

Newtown’s boys hosted Bunnell at Treadwell Park and also won 7-0. Bunnell had only four players so all of the doubles matches were won via forfeit. AJ Singh, Frankie Cannizzo, Aarav Shetty, and Carter Briggs all won 6-0, 6-0.

In a match at Immaculate of Danbury on April 23 the NHS girls fell 5-2. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Donovan and Morits won 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 and the No. 2 doubles team of Musen and Bruno prevailed 6-2, 6-4.
