Volleyball Team Reels Off 3-0 Victories

Newtown High School’s boys’ volleyball team won five consecutive matches, all by 3-0 scores, by defeating visiting Norwich Free Academy on April 20, going on the road to top Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on April 23, defeating host Brookfield on April 25, toppling visiting Oxford on April 28, and beating Pomperaug of Southbury on April 29.

The Hawks beat NFA by scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-5. Matt Mattera had two aces, two kills, nine digs, five blocks, and 28 assists. Thad Teraszkiewicz recorded two aces, 20 kills, 14 digs, and one block. Warner Bacon had three kills and two digs.

Game scores against Kolbe were 25-11, 25-15, and 25-9. Mattera had one kill, six digs, one block, and 20 assists. Teraszkiewicz had six aces, 20 kills, and six digs. Lewis Tomaj logged three aces, one kill, and a pair of blocks. Ben Davis had two aces and four digs.

Newtown beat Brookfield with scores of 25-11, 25-11, and 25-23. Mattera racked up three aces, five kills, four digs, one block, and 20 assists. Will Connors played excellent defense and had ten digs. Teraszkiewicz had four aces, 17 kills, and 11 digs. Collin Granville recorded three aces and three digs.
