Hit Parked Car

Newtown Police report that Lantanya White, 30, of Waterbury, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, was backing out of a driveway on Lincoln Road at 3:19 pm April 14. While backing up, she backed into an unoccupied 2017 BMW X5 Xdrive that was parked on the road near the driveway.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

DUI Arrest

Newtown Police report that officers were dispatched at 7:06 pm April 16 on the report of an erratic driver unable to maintain their lane. The vehicle was located on Main Street and after a brief investigation, Jose Jara, 49, of Bridgeport, was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was released on a $200 bond with a court date of May 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

Fender Bender In Lot

Newtown Police report Marilyn Rennagel, 79, of Hawleyville, operating a 2018 Jeep Wrangler, was parked in a space in a parking lot at 23 Barnabas Road. Benjamin Roberts, 61, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Toyota Prius, was backing from a spot, and stopped and blared his horn when he noticed Rennagel also started backing from her spot. The left rear section of Rennagel’s vehicle made contact with the left front section of Roberts’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Lexus vs Mercedes

Newtown Police report Robert Baluha, 66, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2013 Lexus RX 350, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 2:28 pm April 19. He was traveling behind a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 4matic, operated by Diane Siroky, 61, of Newtown. Siroky stopped at the intersection of Toddy Hill for a traffic control signal, and the front of Baluha’s vehicle made contact with the rear of Siroky’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Baluha was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Verbal Warning

Newtown Police report Milan Pranger, 19, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Toyota RAV4, was traveling northbound on Dodgingtown Road at 6:12 pm April 20. She was traveling behind a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Joseph Parciasepe, 37, of Newtown. Parciasepe stopped and the front of Pranger’s vehicle struck the rear of Parciasepe’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Pranger received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Box Truck Breaks Down

Newtown Police report Kayode Adebola, 26, of Humble, Texas, operating a 2018 International Dura Star box truck, was traveling southbound on Eden Hill Road at 6:55 am April 21. Adebola’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the right and got stuck in a ditch on the southbound shoulder of the road. The vehicle was removed from the ditch by a local tow company and was able to complete its delivery, but had sustained functional damage to its undercarriage. Police responded to a report of the disabled box truck blocking a lane of traffic.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Newtown Police Department responded to a one-vehicle crash mid-Monday morning, April 24, after an elderly male driver went off the northern side of Schoolhouse Hill Road. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was then added to the call to assist with a possible medical issue. Newtown Hook & Ladder was later added to help get the driver out of the Subaru Forester and safely onto a waiting gurney. The driver was transported to a hospital.
