Jean Zitnay Wininger

Llewellyn J. Wininger, 74, and Jean Zitnay Wininger, 69, both of Gilmanton, N.J., died April 21 in South Carolina as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

They are survived by their children, Susan Lynn Cronin and her husband, Tim, of Newtown, Debra Jean Leninger of South Carolina, Marie Anne Barengo and her husband, Peter, of Massachusetts.; grandchildren Jennifer and Ashley Cronin of Newtown and Carl and Jared Leninger of South Carolina.

 Mr Wininger is also survived by a brother, Myron Wininger and his wife, June, of Monroe. Mrs Wininger is also survived by a brother, Ted Zitnay and his wife, Sofia, of California; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Zitnay, of Newtown. She was predeceased by her brother, Andrew Zitnay of Newtown.

Mr Wininger, born in West Haven on March 1, 1929, was the son of the late Llewellyn and Irene (Halin-Benson) Wininger. Mrs Wininger, born in Bridgeport on May 27, 1933, was the daughter of the late Andrew and Jean (Krisak) Zitnay.

Mr Wininger was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War and worked as a technician for SNET for 36½ years before retiring. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Together, they shared 51 years of marriage living in Monroe for many years before moving to New Hampshire 17 years ago.

They were active members of St Joseph’s Parish of Belmont, N.H., volunteering in the St Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, prison ministry, and many other charitable activities.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated on April 26, in St Stephen Church, Trumbull. The Spadaccino Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
