Town Players Auditions

Town Players announces auditions for its July-August production, William Shakespeare’s All’s Well That Ends Well, to be directed by Ruth Anne Baumgartner. Baumgartner describes the play as “a fairy tale for thinking people in a fallen world.” Set in France and Italy, the play asks, What if the Prince thought Cinderella was too low-class to marry?

The cast includes sensible widows, a King and a Duke, a young man too class-conscious for his own good, two loquacious fools of different ranks, and a heroine determined to win the love of her new husband, even if it means performing two fairy-tale-impossible tasks. Needed for the cast are 10 to 11 men and 6 to 7 women of various ages for speaking roles, plus a few good people willing to take on non-speaking parts. All roles are open. The play is readily available in libraries.

Actors should arrive at the theater ready to read scenes from the script; those who have not previously worked with this director may also be asked to present a prepared Shakespeare monologue. No assumed English, French, or Italian accents, please.

Anyone interested in crew or tech work is invited to attend the audition and speak with the director.

Participation in this community theatre production is without pay.

Auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 5-6, from 7 to 9:30 pm, at Town Players’ Little Theatre, Orchard Hill Road in Newtown (off Route 25, just north of Sand Hill Plaza).

Production dates are July 11-August 2, including one Sunday matinee. For more information, email the director at RBaumgartner@fair1.fairfield.edu.
