Babe Ruth Prep 13-Year-Olds

Newtown Shell Hornets 6, Ridgefield Five 2: Led by Chris Robinson’s two hits and five innings of shutout pitching by Kyle Wilcox, Stefan Hennessey, Chris Tenney and Connor Blanc, the Hornets opened their season with a victory in Ridgefield Saturday. Down 1-0, the Hornets rallied for four fourth-inning runs. Robinson ripped an RBI single, and Ben Stoller knocked in a run with a hard-hit ball that was mishandled by the Ridgefield shortstop. Hennessey also contributed a key single, and Hennessey, Blanc and Stoller each stole second and scored. Wilcox struck out five batters in two innings on the mound, and catcher Blanc ended a Ridgefield threat by gunning out a base stealer at second with a runner on third and two outs in the second inning. 

Newtown Noyes-Ryder Rangers 14, Ridgefield Two 7: The Rangers rallied late to overcome a five-run deficit in a 14-7 opening-game victory in Ridgefield on Saturday. Nick Barretto,  Jon Hull, Mike Scharfenberg and Mario Pizaghelli scored a pair of runs apiece, and Ryan Daignault and Dan Gustafson rifled a couple of hard base hits. Strong relief pitching from lefty Troy Larsen and Scharfenberg held Ridgefield to two runs over the last four innings.

11-Year-Old Spring Division

Benchwarmers 5, Cyberdoorman. com 0: The Benchwarmers  received excellent pitching from Nick Cagganello, Kevin Conte, Wiley Zahansky and Colten Moroney. On the offensive end they were led by Greg Ladestro and Jordan Salvesan. Angel Santos, Jake Simonson and Austin Iesu all had defensive highlights while Andrew Hickey pitched a perfect inning for Cyberdoorman.com

Roche Inc. 10, Mobil One Lube Express 9: The Roche Inc. Orange Crush rallied from behind twice to beat the Mobil One Lube Express Lubers in six innings. Mike Davenport, Virgil Procaccini and Nick Roche combined to allow just four runs on five hits in five innings. At the plate, The Crush was led by Procaccini with two doubles and four RBI. The final inning comeback saw critical hits by Jacob Burden and John Bashak before a line drive hit by Davenport won the game.

BW Retail Real Estate 9, Fairfield County Irrigation 6: For Fairfield County Irrigation, Scott Kelley hit a shot to left center field for a three-run double and Bobby Archiere pitched well. Joey Topolski had a key two-run double and Jim Parker, Chase Wurtz, Matt Wood, Will Swain and Greg Grasso all pitched well to lead BW Retail Real Estate.

Roche Inc. 10, Mobil 1 Lube Express 9: Mobil 1 Lube Express had a 4-0 lead through four innings but Roche Inc. erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. The Lubers then returned the favor by scoring five runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead 9-6 before Roche came back once more to earn the win. The Lubers were led by the by the solid hitting of by Mark Dowling (3-for-3  with 3 RBI), Devon Palila (3-for-3 with an RBI), Joshua Krapf (2-for-3) and Julian Dunn (1-for-2 with 2 RBI). Defensively, Matt Janco had a strong game behind the plate and Carter Priolo anchored the outfield. 

Mount Pleasant Hospital for Animals 9, Newtown Mobil 4: Pat Rowley and Ryan Rosenberger went a combined 4-for-7, with two runs scored to lead the Newtown Mobil offense.  Will Dalton had a great game, contributing a key hit and making an excellent catch in left field. Connor Roche dominated on the mound, going two hitless innings and striking out four. Marcus Elken, Colton Smith and Troy Frangione combined for six solid innings of pitching. Jack Lago and Darryl Silverleib stood out with great defensive plays. Malcom Dance and Max Rucinski combined for five RBI.
