Garner Inmate Arrested After Fight At Prison

About 11 am April 23, state police learned of a violent incident involving an inmate at Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high-security prison on Nunnawauk Road, so they went there to investigate.

State police said that inmate Ray Charles Wright, 38, had become involved in a fight with another inmate, after which state Department of Correction (DOC) staffers sought to break up the altercation.

In the incident, Wright injured the other inmate and injured a DOC staff member, state police said.

State police charged Wright with breach of peace, third-degree assault, interfering with an officer, and refusal to be fingerprinted.

Wright was scheduled for an April 24 arraignment on the charges at Danbury Superior Court.

Wright is unsentenced inmate being held on $250,000 bail at Garner on a pending charge of sale of narcotics.
