On Wednesday, May 13, the Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown will present a program by Margery Winters called, “Spring Wildflowers.”

The program will begin at 7 pm at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.

Guests will learn about the myriad varieties of spring wildflowers in Connecticut as well as why them bloom during this time of the year, where to find them, how they got their names, and what makes them so special.

Margery Winter is the assistant director at Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton and manages their native plant gardens.  She is a past president of Simsbury Garden Club and a Master Landscape Design Consultant.

Ms Winter also serves as chairman of Simsbury Inland Wetland Conservation Commission and vice president of the Simsbury Trust. She has been actively involved in Connecticut’s river land issues and was the assistant director with the state river advocacy organization, Rivers Alliance of Connecticut.

Before moving to Connecticut, Ms Winter was an environmental scientist with Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago.

“Spring Wildflowers” is open to the public, free of charge. Reservations are not needed, but additional information is available from Liz Arneth, at 203-405-6470.

Margery Winter will present a free public program on Connecticut’s wildflowers, focusing on those that bloom in spring, on May 13 in Sandy Hook.
