Kitten Food Drive

The Animal Center will hold a spring “Supper for Strays” food drive, May 8–14, to help feed the homeless kittens born to stray and feral cats in the Newtown area this summer. The hosts of the food drive are Super Stop & Shop, Sand Hill Plaza in Newtown, and Paws on Main, 268 Main Street in Monroe.

“Kitten season occurs in mid spring and summer, stretching The Animal Center’s resources to the limit. The more food that is donated to help homeless animals, the more resources we have available for veterinary care, such as spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and emergency care in some cases,” says Monica Roberto, president of The Animal Center.

From May until August last year, The Animal Center helped 75 homeless cats. Organizers have set a goal of 100 for this summer.

The center’s cat adoption program is run by volunteers and operates through a network of foster homes in the community.

“We were able to help so many cats last summer because of the generous support of our community, and this food drive will go along way in helping us reach our goal for this summer,” says Ms Roberto.

The Animal Center held its first “Supper for Strays” food drive last fall, which brought in more than $625 in cat food and other supplies.

Donation bins for the spring food drive will be stationed at Super Stop & Shop and Paws on Main.

The Animal Center is a Newtown-based charity focused on animal welfare. More information about The Animal Center can be found at TheAnimalCenter.org.
