iPhone Found

Police report that in early April, a black Apple-brand iPhone cellphone enclosed in a black Ballistic-brand protective case was found in Newtown.

Police said that after presenting proper identification and the serial number for the iPhone, the owner may retrieve it at the police department at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Church Hill Crash

At about 5 pm on April 10, a two-vehicle accident occurred near 62 Church Hill Road.

Police said westbound motorist Craig Hollis, 24, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla sedan, was preparing to make a left turn into a commercial driveway, as motorist Paige Robinson, 42, of Middlebury was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty sedan eastward.

An eastbound noncontact vehicle stopped to allow the Toyota to make the left turn, but when it attempted the turning maneuver, the Toyota collided with the Jeep, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Hollis a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, driving without a license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Dodgingtown Crash

Motorist Alicja Borowska, 46, of Rockaway Park, Queens, N.Y., who was driving a 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-350 SUV, was traveling westward on Hattertown Road at about 1:17 pm on April 13 and then stopped at a stop sign at that road’s intersection with Route 302, police said.

At that time, motorist Louise Baker, 75, of 17 Hyvue Drive was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastward on Route 302, police said.

The Mercedes then pulled into the intersection, resulting in the two vehicles colliding. There were no injuries. Police said Borowska received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Dodgingtown Accident

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the four-way intersection of Hattertown Road, Poverty Hollow Road, and Key Rock Road about 5 pm on April 18.

The accident involved motorist Seth Peterson, 53, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer SUV, and motorist Rosalinda Hasselbacher, 67, of Shelton, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Outback SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said that due to conflicting statements from the two drivers, a lack of witnesses, and a lack of evidence, no fault for the collision was assigned to either driver, and thus there was no enforcement.

Three Vehicle Accident

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 11, about 7 pm on April 20.

In that incident, motorist Christopher O’Toole, 45, of Watertown, who was driving a 2007 Hyundai Entourage minivan, struck the rear end of a 2009 BMW 328-XI auto driven by Trevor Russo, 30, of Watertown, pushing the BMW into the rear end of a 2009 Kia Rio auto driven by Mariblanca Majeed, 51, of Waterbury, state police said.

Majeed was transported by ambulance to a hospital, state police said. O’Toole received a verbal warning for following too closely, state police report.

Highway Accident

State police said that motorist Spencer Brown, 41, of 54 New Lebbon Road, who was driving a 2013 Subaru Impreza westward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 9, slowed due to traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Daniel Warner-Crouch, 24, of 77 Riverside Road, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai Sonata at about 7:23 am on April 21.

There were no injuries. State police said they issued Warner-Crouch a misdemeanor summons for following too closely, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Truck vs Car

At about 7:42 am on April 21, while in stop-and-go traffic, truck driver Scott Gwizd, 41, of Terryville, who was driving a 2014 Kenworth 370 truck westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of Exit 10, struck the rear end of a 1997 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Jagruti Dave, 44, of 7 Quarry Ridge Road, state police report.

There were no injuries. Gwizd received a written warning for following too closely, state police said.

Exit 11 Off-Ramp

At about 2:41 pm on April 21, motorist Ahmad Siddique, 49, of Danbury, who was driving a 2011 Dodge Caravan minivan, stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp, according to state police.

Motorist Lynn Tucci, 53, of 60 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 2004 Mercedes-Benz C-240 auto, then stopped behind the Dodge, state police said.

The Mercedes then struck the rear end of the Dodge, according to state police. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Motor Vehicle Charges

Police report that at about 7:25 am on April 22, they were doing travel speed enforcement in the area of Mt Pleasant Road and Whippoorwill Hill Road, when they found that motorist Allan Pereira Dos Santos, 25, of Brookfield was driving 69 miles per hour in a posted 45-mph zone.

Police stopped Pereira to investigate and charged him with speeding, driving with a suspended license, and driving without a license. After processing, police released him on $50 bail for a May 1 court appearance.

Flagpole Crash

At about 6:05 pm on April 23, motorist Rebecca Rappoccio, 31, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2011 Ford Escape SUV, was on westbound Church Hill Road and preparing to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street, police said.

In attempting to make that turn, the Ford drove into the flagpole in the intersection, police said. Rappoccio was not injured. Police said they issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Highway Accident

State police report that at about 8:43 pm on April 24, a 32-year-old New Britain man was driving a Volvo vehicle on eastbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet east of Exit 11, when an unknown vehicle merged into the Volvo’s lane and sideswiped it. The Volvo driver was not injured. The unknown vehicle drove away. State police are investigating.

Jeep vs Deer

At about 8:25 am on April 25, motorist Shannon Hicks, 44, of 2 Zoar Road was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler SUV westward near 51 Berkshire Road, when a deer ran in front of the vehicle, police said. Hicks was unable to avoid a collision and the Jeep struck the deer, police said. Hicks was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

South Main DUI

Police report that motorist Stefan Steiner, 25, of New Milford was driving northward on South Main Street about 12:27 am on April 26, when they spotted him cross over the roadway’s center line, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police report they charged Steiner with driving under the influence and with failure to keep to the right on a curve. After processing, police released Steiner on $100 bail for a May 13 court appearance.

Accident At Edmond Town Hall

Police report a two-vehicle accident in the perpendicular-parking area directly in front of Edmond Town Hall at 45 Main Street about 8:11 am on April 26.

The collision involved a commercial 2000 International 4900 truck driven by John Cooper, 49, of Southbury, and a 2008 Honda Accord sedan driven by Bradford Paynter, 48, of 182 Hanover Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Sideswiped

At about 6:05 pm on April 26, motorist Melissa Samoncik, 39, of 29 Mohawk Trail, was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia SUV westward near 100 Berkshire Road, as motorist Daniel Holmes, 45, of 6 Glen Road was driving a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward there, police report.

The GMC entered the opposite lane, resulting a sideswipe accident between the two vehicles, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Samoncik for failure to maintain the proper lane.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 7:05 am on April 27, motorist Barry C. Smith, Jr, 22, of 13 Knollwood Drive was involved in a minor two-vehicle accident near 66 Church Hill Road.

After investigating, police said they charged Smith with driving under the influence and with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Following processing, Smith was released on $500 bail for a May 13 court appearance, according to police.

Moving Violations

While using the police department’s computerized marker-plate reader device, which is mounted atop a patrol vehicle, police detected at about 10:08 am on April 27 on Church Hill Road, near Wendover Road, a vehicle with a marker plate on it for which there were listed pending violations,

Police said they stopped motorist Robin Bruneau, 33, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2001 Ford van, and investigated, after which they charged him with driving with a suspended vehicle registration and failure to have automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Bruneau on $500 bail for a May 9 court appearance.

Interstate Collision

State police report that at about 4:09 pm on April 27, motorist Laura McCarty, 44, of Walpole, Mass., who was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, about 200 feet west of the Exit 10 on-ramp, stopped for traffic conditions and was then stuck from behind by motorist Maria Oliveira, 24, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Winslow Road Vehicles Entered

Police report that at about 12:24 am on April 29 on Winslow Road, three parked motor vehicles, which had been left unlocked, were entered by someone who did not remove any items from within those vehicles.

Winslow Road is a residential dead-end street that extends from Great Hill Road.

At about the time of the incident, a silver-colored vehicle, which is possibly a Nissan Altima, was seen leaving the area, police said.

DUI Case

Police report that that at about 1:06 am on April 29, they stopped motorist Michael Barbour, 25, of 11 Schoolhouse Hill Road near that address to investigate, after Barbour had been spotted driving fast on Main Street and also had failed to stop for a stop sign while turning right from Hanover Road onto Schoolhouse Hill Road.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Barbour with driving under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast, and failure to obey a stop sign.

After the charges were processed, police released Barbour on $100 bail for a May 15 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.
