Golf Tournaments

Tuesday, May 18 – The annual Nighthawk Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Newtown High School Blue & Gold Booster Club, will be held Tuesday, May 18, at Whitney Farms Golf Club in Monroe. The tournament is one of three major fundraisers the B&G conducts each year in its continuing efforts to improve the capabilities of its athletes, teams, and facilities. The current list the B&G is striving to provide include an improved sound system for the high school pool, dugouts for the baseball field, a scoreboard for the softball field, stands for the back fields, and the construction of a equipment storage building and rest room facilities for the back fields. The help achieve those goals, the B&G is seeking sponsors for the golf tournament. PLAYERS NEEDED – A fee for each foursome is $500 ($125 each) and includes breakfast, lunch, and refreshments on the course. The day will include raffles, door prizes, 50/50, and individual competitions such as long drive contests. Contact Dan Barrett at 270-1927 to register your foursome. Also call if you can provide support in the way of sponsorships – Nighthawk ($500); Gold ($350); Blue ($200); Tee ($125); Cart ($75). In you can support the B&G, contact Dan Barrett or mail a check to NHS Blue & Gold, c/o Dan Barrett, 5 Black Walnut Drive, Newtown, CT, 06470 (make sure to include a note that states specifically how you want the sponsorship to read). In the meantime, get a foursome together to participate in the tournament.

Tuesday, June 1 – The Junior League of Greater Waterbury will hold its Women’s Golf Classic, Luncheon & Fashion Show on Tuesday, June 1, at the Watertown Golf Club on Guernseytown Road in Watertown. Registration will open at 10:30 am with lunch and fashion show to follow from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The tournament will commence with a shotgun start at 1:30 pm and will include hole-in-one, closest to the pin, and longest drive prizes. Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails awards reception will follow at 6 pm. Feel is $180 per player and include golf, the fashion show and lunch, and the awards reception. Sponsorships are available from flag ($200) to major sponsor ($5,000). Call the Junior League of Greater Waterbury, Inc., at 1-203-596-7399 for further information and to register. The tournament will benefit its Multiply Your Options (MYO) project. Each year, the Junior League provides scholarships to high school students and last year presented one to Newtown senior Caitlyn Elf.

Saturday, June 19 – The 20th annual Tex Alex Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, June 19, at Fairview Farms Golf Course in Harwinton. It will be a scramble tournament with an 8 am shotgun start. The tournament is held in honor of the legendary educator and coach who died of cancer in 1984. Register by contacting Matt Adams at mattadams422@aol.com or by calling 1-401-848-9690. Greens fees will be $95.

Monday, August 23 – The Newtown Junior Women’s Club will hold its second annual golf tournament on Monday, August 23, at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe. All proceeds from this event make it possible for NJWC to sponsor all of their major town wide service programs, such as Back-to-School Backpacks; Tag-a-Gift; Discovery, Science, Math & Technology Workshops; their new Field Trip Fund; and other charitable causes. NJWC is actively recruiting sponsors and players now, so please contact tournament co-chairs, Kim DiDomizio at 426-4917, or Kathryn Wolf at 270-0307.
