Volleyball Team Defeats Trio Of SCC Teams

Newtown High School’s boys’ volleyball team defeated a trio of Southern Connecticut Conference teams this past week.

The Nighthawks beat visiting Cheshire 3-1 (19-25, 25-11, 25-11, 27-25) on May 1. Ardi Kodzodziku had 17 kills and 17 digs, Eric Moore accumulated 21 assists, two aces, and seven service points; Max Wrage logged 19 assists and 17 service points; and Robbie Morrill had 16 kills and eight digs.

In a May 3 visit to Amity of Woodbridge, the Nighthawks won 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-19). Wrage had six aces, two kills, and 24 assists; Morrill had three aces, 12 kills, and eight digs; Kodzodziku had 13 kills and ten digs; and Moore logged seven kills, 15 service points, 18 assists, and eight digs.

The Nighthawks downed visiting Shelton 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-17) on May 6. Kodzodziku registered six digs, six service points, two aces, 12 kills, and one block; Danny Schreiber logged two digs, two service points, four kills, and blocks; Wrage compiled six digs, 21 service points, an ace, three kills, one block, and a dozen assists; Moore had 11 assists and seven digs; Morrill had eight kills and five digs; and Zach Marks added one dig, three kills, and a block.

Newtown improved to 15-0 (5-0 in South-West Conference play) with four matches remaining — beginning with Wednesday’s visit from Joel Barlow of Redding at 6 pm. Barlow comes in at 13-1, 5-1, its sole loss coming to Newtown.
