Hawk Tennis Players Post Wins

Newtown High School’s girls’ tennis team defeated host New Fairfield 7-0 on April 27. Willow Assante-LaBash won 6-0, 6-1, Madi Singlak won 6-1, 6-1, Sophia Dutsar came out on top 6-2, 6-0, and Jamie Rowan prevailed 6-1, 6-2. In doubles play, Amelia Hufschmied and Kristen Reisert won 6-2, 6-1, Caitlin Briggs and Erin Marshall won 6-0, 6-2, and Kessler Rhodean and Molly Lyddy won 6-0, 6-1.

The Nighthawks won 7-0 at Bunnell of Stratford on May 3. Assante-LaBash, Singlak, and Dutsar all cruised 6-0, 6-0, and Emma Lyddy rounded out the singles triumphs with a 6-2, 6-1 win. In doubles play, Hufschmied and Resiert won 6-0, 6-0, Ella Mortis and Melina Cummings won 6-0, 6-1, and Rhodean and Molly Lyddy won 6-0, 6-0.

The Nighthawk boys defeated visiting Bethel 6-1 on April 28 and blanked Bunnell 7-0 in another home match, May 2.

Against Bethel, top singles player Sam Cannizzo won 6-0, 6-2, No. 2 player Josh Parsons won 6-0, 6-2, No. 3 Ben Ochs prevailed 6-3, 6-3, and No. 4 Orion Bracksieck won 7-6, 6-4. In doubles play, the No. 2 tandem of Oliver Clancy and Theo Anderson came back to win 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, and the No. 3 duo of Michael Berry and Trevor Hislop came out on top 6-4, 6-3.

In the Bunnell match, Cannizzo won 6-0, 6-0, Ochs won 6-2, 6-1, Bracksieck came out on top 6-1, 6-1, and Berry won 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, the top tandem of Andrew Sposato and Alex Kyprianou won 6-1, 6-0, Clancy and Anderson were victorious 6-0, 6-0, and Hislop and Ethan Hillefeld won by forfeit.
