Rear-Ended At Red Light

Newtown Police report Arqum Chaudary, 24, of Monroe, operating a 2019 Toyota Camry, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 7:33 am April 25. Alan Wilcoxson, 57, of Shelton, operating a 2014 Ford Taurus, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road ahead of Chaudary and slowed to a stop at the red traffic signal at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Grays Plain Road. The front bumper of Chaudary’s vehicle made contact with the rear bumper of Wilcoxson’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Chaudary was given a verbal warning for following too closely.

Tractor Trailer Hits Fire Company

Newtown Police report Randall Kemp, 71, of Nolensville, Tenn, operating a 2021 International tractor trailer, was backing up in a parking area in front of the Hawleyville Fire Company on Hawleyville Road at 6:04 pm April 26. While backing up, in an attempt to turn towards the roadway, the rear trailer bumper collided with a post in front of the fire department. Kemp’s vehicle then also struck the front wall of the fire department, causing a portion of the wall to dent inwards.

Newtown police observed that the damage was visible inside the fire department, where the damage extended through the entire wall. The sheet rock was cracked and the concrete holding the wall up was broken and would likely need significant repair.

Kemp said the vehicle suffered no damage from the collision.

Police Seek Vandals

Newtown Police responded to Old Farm Road at 4:57 pm April 28 for a reported vandalism. The vandalism was graffiti. Police are seeking information on the vandalism and are asking those with information related to the incident to contact Newtown Police.

Construction Vehicle Hits Car

Newtown Police report Ernest Ingram, 55, of Southbury, operating a 2005 Mack Granite, was part of work going on in a construction zone on Dinglebrook Lane at 10:06 am April 29. Emanuel Dias, 62, of New Milford, operating a 2004 Chevrolet Express, was traveling south in the northbound travel lane as directed by a construction flagger. Ingram attempted to turn into the northbound travel lane, where the left front bumper of his vehicle struck the passenger-side door of Dias’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Ingram was issued a verbal warning for unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle.

Truck Rear-Ends Car

Newtown Police report Sergiy Vlasenko, of Brunswick, Ohio, operating a 2019 Volvo VNL760 tractor trailer, was traveling north on South Main Street at 12:30 pm April 29. Vlasenko was traveling behind a 2015 Toyota Camry operated by Rizwan Haq, 47, of Oceanside, N.Y. Haq stopped at a traffic light that had turned yellow. Vlasenko was unable to stop behind Haq’s vehicle and the front bumper of his vehicle struck the rear bumper of Haq’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Vlasenko was issued a written warning for following too closely resulting in an accident.

Four Car Collision

Newtown Police report Antoinette Kudrenecky, 61, of Monroe, operating a 2008 Jeep Liberty Sport, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 2:34 pm April 29. Marilyn Roginski, 74, of Brookfield, operating a 2014 Nissan Murano, came to a stop due to an uninvolved vehicle traveling southbound making a left hand turn. David Baltimore, 66, of Southport, operating a 2020 Toyota Highlander, and Theresa Caputo, 69, of Monroe, operating a 2020 Subaru Outback, both stopped behind Roginksi. Kudrenecky did not stop and hit the rear of Baltimore’s vehicle, which then hit the rear of Caputo’s vehicle. Caputo’s vehicle in turn hit the rear of Roginski’s vehicle.

Kudrenecky’s and Baltimore’s vehicles were towed. Kudrenecky had a small cut on her wrist but declined medical treatment.

Kudrenecky was issued an infraction for following too closely.

Drug And Larceny Charges

Newtown Police report Ralph Ruggiero, 38, of Stratford, was arrested at 6 pm April 29 on the charges of improper use of a license marker plate, illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, sixth-degree larceny, two counts of first-degree failure to appear, and second-degree failure to appear. He was held on multiple bonds with a court date of May 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Appear

Newtown Police report Alfia Sutieva, 30, of Newtown, was arrested at 10:37 am April 30 on the charges of first-degree failure to appear and second-degree failure to appear, stemming from re-arrests warrants from last year for assaults and violation of protective orders. She was held on a $50,000 bond with a court date of May 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

Drove Into Ditch

Glen Gilliam, 54, of Bridgeport, operating a 2005 Honda Vt1300s, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 4:32 pm April 30. While negotiating a curve, Gilliam’s vehicle went off the road and came to a stop in a ditch.

Gilliam complained of pain in his left arm and right knee. He was checked by Newtown Ambulance but refused medical treatment or transport.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Collision In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Ava Graham, 17, of Bethel, operating a 2012 Ford Escape, was stopped at the western exit to 30 Church Hill Road at 12:04 pm April 30. Tiffany Schoen, 45, of Newtown, operating a 2017 BMW X5 Xdrive35i, was backing from a marked parking stall along the west end of the parking lot of 30 Church Hill Road.

Graham stated that she did not want to use that exit and began to back to perform a K-turn. She said she did not see that Schoen’s vehicle was behind her. The rear bumper of her vehicle struck the rear bumper of Schoen’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Avoided One Collision Into Another

Newtown Police report Jocelyne Jaramillo, 25, of Stamford, operating a 2009 Mazda 3i, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 2:37 pm April 30. Sergio Remache-Pangol, 44, of Danbury, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road. Jaramillo failed to slow for eastbound traffic and turned left to avoid contact and crossed into the westbound travel lane. The left side of Jaramillo’s vehicle struck the left front corner of Remache-Pangol’s vehicle.

Jaramillo’s vehicle then turned to the right and crossed back into the eastbound travel lane, and came to rest off of the road and shoulder right on a steep incline.

No injuries were reported.

Jaramillo was issued an infraction for failure to drive right.

Restricted Turn

Newtown Police report Francis Safino, 73, of Simsbury, operating a 2022 BMW X5 Xdrive40i, was stopped in the westbound lane of Church Hill Road, waiting to turn left into the parking lot of 66 Church Hill Road at 7:45 am May 3. Paul Tausig, 74, of Sandy Hook, operating a 1999 Jaguar XJ8, was traveling eastbound in the right turn only lane in front of 66 Church Hill Road.

Safino turned left in front of Tausig, causing the front of Safino’s vehicle to hit the front of Tausig’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Safino was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn/failure to grant right of way.

Police Seeking Witnesses

Newtown Police report Karen Harris, 62, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Toyota Rav4, was making a left turn onto Mt Pleasant Road from Sawmill Road at 6:06 am May 4. Helder Chunir-Remache, 50, of Danbury, operating a 2016 Toyota Highlander, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Chunir-Remache’s vehicle struck Harris’ vehicle front end to left rear fender. Hawleyville Fire Department and Newtown EMS responded to the scene.

The accident is currently under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841.

A pair of Hilario’s employees operate a crane on one of the towing company’s wreckers on Monday, May 2, after the 2015 Subaru Outback in the air went into the aquifer about an hour earlier. Newtown Police, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Newtown Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue all responded to the crash scene, along the southern side of Wasserman Way between its intersections with Nunnawauk Road and the I-84 Exit 11 ramps. According to the police report, Spencer D. Healey, 37, of Wallingford, was traveling on Wasserman Way when he lost control of the Outback. The vehicle ran off the roadway, struck multiple trees. The vehicle also rotated, so it was perpendicular to the guide rail when it stopped approximately 100 feet into the swampy area in a few feet of water. Healey was checked for injuries, and transported to a hospital. He was also issued an infraction for traveling unreasonably fast for conditions. —Bee Photo, Hicks
