Borough Of Newtown To Host Budget Vote
On Tuesday, May 13, the Borough of Newtown will host a vote for the 2025-2026 proposed budget. The vote will be held at 7 pm in the gym of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street. The total budget is $299,620, with a proposed mill rate of .83.
This proposed budget is a $49,000 increase from last year and a .17 mill rate increase, with the bulk of the increase going towards legal fees. The Castle Hill appeal from both sides is an added cost not seen in previous years.
Other notable increases are a $1,000 increase to advertising, $6,000 increase to fire hydrants, $4,500 increase to street lights, and a $2,200 increase to office maintenance and supplies, which will help upkeep the new Borough website.
As the charter of the Borough states, “not less than twenty legal voters shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.” To be considered a legal voter in the Borough, residents must “have continuously resided within the limits of the Borough for the period of six months … and entitled to vote at all meetings.”
