Business Name: The Quarter Southern Coastal Grill

Permittee: Vincent Cappelletti

What inspired you to open this business? This was an opportunity for this space to be reborn again, due to COVID. The Quarter is part of Lucas Hospitality Group, four restaurants in the Bethel-Newtown-Southbury area, each with their own palette. This space operated, from 2017 to 2020 as Lucas Local Oyster Bar, but Lucas outgrew this space. We have relocated that to Southbury, and we’ve given a whole new spirit to this place. We opened The Quarter on February 16.

We are very comfort food focused, and a very casual place to come. We focus on New Orleans, the energy of New Orleans, and the energy of the southeast. Lucas is contemporary northeast.

The menu offers small plates (Gumbo, Warm Pimento Cheese Dip, Smoked Duck, Cajun Mac & Cheese, and more), large plates (Shrimp & Grits, Cast Iron Ribeye, Jambalaya, and Southern Fried Chicken, among others), and two regular sandwiches — an oyster po’boy and The Who-Dat Burger.

Regular desserts include Memaw’s Apple Tart, Beignets, and Flourless Chocolate Cake. Cocktails, mocktails, dessert cocktails, and a full bar are all part of the Quarter experience.

This was an opportunity for this space to be reborn again, and to build back up in Newtown. The bar is larger now, because people like to drink and dine at a bar — but you won’t see guys in here doing shots. We also have a side room with additional seating for dining.

Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are absolutely welcomed.

What would you most like Newtown Bee readers to know about your business? We do a lot of work with community partners. Breads come from Uncle Matt’s Bakery in Sandy Hook; beer from Newtown’s two breweries — Newsylum and Reverie — are on tap, and regular flower deliveries come from Newtown Florist, among other local partnerships.

Also, we have a large flat-screen TV on the wall just to share some of our specials. It doesn’t air TV. You dine to spend time with the party you’re with. TV and dining don’t mix.

We have live music Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Pianists often do background music until later, and sing-alongs often happen.

Do you have any upcoming promotions or events? Check our social media for specials, and the music calendar. The patio will be opening in May.
