Occupation: I am a part-time customer service representative for CL&P and have worked there for 20 years. I am also a substitute driver for school bus drivers Janice and Dan Paynter. I earned a bachelorâs of science in physical education from Brooklyn College. When I moved to Connecticut, I began working for CL&P, and never pursued becoming a teacher.
How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for 14 years in April. I was born and raised in Manhattan. After I was married, I moved to Tarrytown, N.Y., then to Connecticut. I lived in Brookfield prior to moving here.
Biggest Change Seen in Town: The actual number of people, houses, and, at times, the traffic, especially when Iâm driving the bus.
Family: My husband, Mark, and I have been married for 20 years. We have two children. Adam, 15, is a freshman at Newtown High School, and Hilary, 11, is in the sixth grade at Newtown Middle School.
Pets: I have a dog, Jodie, who is 6; a couple of parakeets, Sparkie, Jr, and Princess; and fish.
Hobbies: I enjoy vegetable gardening, running, and working out at Karenâs Fitness. Sheâs a total inspiration to me. I also enjoy photography, coaching girlsâ softball, and anything outdoors.
Favorite Books and Authors: I read magazines, such as People and the new Rosie magazine. I like her.
Favorite TV Show: The Sopranos, Ally MacBeal and Sex and the City. Iâve always liked Jeopardy. With all the kidsâ activities, Iâm not home to watch TV.
Organizations: I am president of the sisterhood at Adath Israel and a member of the Newtown High School Marching Band Parents Association, which are very important to me.
Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: Itâs definitely got to be the flagpole. When I was driving from Brookfield to Newtown to look at houses, someone said I would see the flagpole in the middle of the road. When I saw it, I knew I had to live here. Last year, when I coached bus 22 in the Junior Championship for girls softball, they were undefeated and won the championship. I hope it gave the girls a memory of a lifetime, because it was a memory of a lifetime for me. Also, the Labor Day parade, especially now that my son marches in the band. Itâs very personal.
Favorite Vacation Spot: I like Florida and Rhode Island. Itâs not a vacation, but I also like to go to Lake Waramaug. I love watching people. Give me a beach and a chair, and I could stay there for hours.
Personal Philosophy: Everyone should take the time to smile and say hello, because it doesnât cost any money, and the rewards you get back are priceless. Friends and family are the seventh wonder of the earth and should be your most valued possessions.
