New York Life Insurance Company will be hosting a Local Competition of the Major League Soccer/New York Life Dribble, Pass & Shoot™ program in conjunction with the Newtown Kickoff Soccer Tournament on Saturday, May 26th, 10 am to 4 pm, at the Fairfield Hills soccer fields.

The nationwide grassroots event, free of charge to boys and girls ages 6-14, is the official youth skills competition of Major League Soccer.

More than 120,000 youth participated in the MLS New York Life Dribble, Pass & Shoot™ program last year, providing an opportunity for youngsters to compete in a fun and free competition featuring three skills essential to soccer: dribbling, passing and shooting. Last year more than 350 children participated in this event at the Kickoff tournament.

Each contestant will have one attempt to dribble through a slalom course of flags for speed, three attempts at passing a ball through a line of flags for accuracy and three shots at a regulation-sized goal with a target net.  Points scored from all three events are added for the cumulative total.  The first-place finishers in the three oldest age divisions will advance to a Sectional Competition to compete for a chance to qualify for the Team Championship and then the National Finals.  An autographed jersey of Clint Mathis and tickets to a Metrostars - Revolution MLS game will be offered as raffle prizes.

W. Scott Anders, a Newtown resident, is the Managing Partner for New York Life’s Southern Connecticut General Office located in Fairfield, CT.
